India - First Krivak Class
Warship To Be Delivered (17 Jun 2003)
The first out of the three Krivak class "stealth"
warships from Russia would be inducted into the Indian Navy on
Wednesday. The ship, christened "INS Talwar", is a 4,000
tonne displacement "stealth warship.
India Navy Chief Admiral Madhavendra Singh went to Russia on
Monday to undertake the delivery of the warship and the warship
will be delivered at a ceremony at St. Petersburg.
The induction of all three warships would have happened 18 months
back, but this was delayed due to faults in its missile systems.
The surface-to-air "Shipil" missile, failed during the
test flight.
However, the faults have been rectified and more tests will be
conducted in the presence of the Navy Chief.
